Frequently asked questions

How does Luso Kitchen work?

Each week, a menu of 4 to 6 Portuguese dishes. You order by Sunday at midnight, we cook on Monday, we deliver on Tuesday afternoon. You keep the dishes in the fridge or the freezer and reheat them when it’s time to eat.

Do you deliver to my address?

We deliver along a fixed route: Orvin, Biel, Solothurn, Olten, Zurich, Winterthur, Schaffhausen, and the communes between these cities. Enter your postcode in the verification field on the site, the answer is immediate. Your postcode is checked a second time when you order.

Until when can I order?

Sunday at midnight, for delivery the following Tuesday. After that, production starts and orders for the week are closed. You can always order for the week after.

When do I receive my order?

On Tuesday, in the afternoon. You’re notified before we come by.

Is there a minimum order?

Yes: 40 francs. Below that, we can’t run the route.

How much does delivery cost?

4.95 francs per order, free on orders over 100 francs. The exact amount shows when you pay, there are no hidden charges.

How can I pay?

By card, at the time of ordering. We never see your full number: our partner Stripe handles the payment, we only see the card type, the last 4 digits and the expiry date. For now, there is no other payment method.

Are the dishes delivered fresh or frozen?

Fresh, always. They have never been frozen. If you won’t eat them in the next few days, freeze them yourself: they keep for up to 3 months.

How long do the dishes keep?

3 to 5 days in the fridge depending on the dish, the use-by date is on the label. Up to 3 months in the freezer. Put the dishes in the fridge as soon as you receive them and respect the cold chain: the use-by date only holds if the cold chain was respected.

How do I reheat the dishes?

The instructions are on each dish. A frozen dish thaws overnight in the fridge, the result is better.

What happens if I’m not home on Tuesday?

You’re notified before we come by. If you can’t be there, give a building access code in your delivery instructions: we’ll leave the order at your door or on your floor. We don’t leave anything in the street. Your dishes are packed to hold two hours out of the fridge, the time it takes you to get home. If you’re away, we can also leave an insulated box for a 15-franc deposit, refunded as soon as we get the box back. If nobody can take the order and there is no access to the building, the delivery fails: the dishes are perishable, a second delivery isn’t possible and the order remains due.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, until Sunday at midnight, via the contact form. After that, the shopping is done and production has started: the order is final. In Switzerland, there is no statutory right of withdrawal for online purchases, and perishable dishes are not taken back.

Do I need a subscription?

No. No subscription, no commitment. You order when the menu appeals to you, in the quantities you want.

Which allergens do the dishes contain?

They’re listed for each dish on the site. The kitchen handles many ingredients: gluten, eggs, milk, nuts and many more. Despite the care we take, traces remain possible. If you have a severe allergy, write to us via the contact form before ordering.

Do you have vegetarian dishes?

It depends on the week. The menu changes all the time, check the current one: the ingredients of each dish are listed there.

Who cooks?

Delipo, a family-run catering business based in Orvin, in the canton of Bern. Everything is prepared on site, by hand, from the recipes of the house. No dish comes out of a factory.

A dish is missing or arrives damaged?

Contact us via the contact form within 12 hours of delivery, ideally with a photo. After checking, we replace the dish or refund it. Beyond 12 hours, the products being perishable, no complaint can be accepted.

I want to order for a relative who lives in the delivery zone. Is that possible?

Yes. Place the order with their delivery address and their phone number, so the notification and the drop-off go well. Check their postcode first: their address has to be inside the delivery zone.
