Chocolate salami

A salami with no meat in it at all: just Maria biscuits, chocolate, butter, sugar and one egg.
No oven: big pieces of Maria biscuit coated in chocolate, rolled up tight, and the cold of the fridge does the rest. The dessert firms up, the pieces keep their crunch.
In the slice, the pattern speaks for itself: pale biscuit pieces set in dark chocolate draw the marbling of a true salami. Portugal and Italy share this dessert, known there as salame di cioccolato; in Portugal, the Maria biscuit signs it. It belongs to family celebrations, and it rarely lasts until the next day.
